Welcome to the Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River
The Royal Gorge is one of the top destinations in Colorado for visitors and locals alike. The Royal Gorge is located in south central Colorado just west of Canon City and a short drive from Colorado Springs. This region is the gateway to the Sangre de Cristo Range and the mountain communities of Cotopaxi and Salida. Our on the river location gives you quick access to the challenging whitewater of the Royal Gorge as well as family rafting opportunities in Bighorn Sheep Canyon.
Royal Gorge White Water Rafting
A Colorado rafting trip down through the Royal Gorge is a must do for anyone passing through the area. Exhilaration rapids, stunning mountain views as the river flows through a steep walled rocky canyon.
Royal Gorge Area Attractions
The most thrilling way to see the Royal Gorge is on a ½ or full day rafting trip. You can combine a rafting trip with a train ride with the Royal Gorge Scenic Railroad. Raft in the morning and then take the train ride after a BBQ lunch to view the Gorge again from a different perspective. A visit to the Royal Gorge Bridge Park adds another dimension to the view of this area from the world’s highest suspension bridge, 1055 feet above the river.
Royal Gorge area Lodging and Camping
We suggest you stay close to Cotopaxi before or after your rafting trip through the Royal Gorge. Area campgrounds provide cabins, motel units and tent sites along the river. More rustic camping is available in the US Forest Service campgrounds within 15 minutes of our base. We also recommend lodging in Salida, CO for those wanting to experience one of Colorado’s finest mountain towns with a historic walking downtown, great restaurants and galleries with the Arkansas River flowing through town.
